In the hustle and bustle of modern life, it is easy to forget the importance of self-love and happiness. Especially when life throws so many curve balls! Yet, these elements are crucial to our well-being and overall quality of life. Exploring how we can learn to love ourselves, choose happiness, become better individuals, enjoy the simple things in life, believe in ourselves, and heal from within. Because Lord knows I need to figure it out!
Learning to Love Yourself
Self-love is the foundation of our emotional and mental health. Loving yourself means accepting your flaws and embracing your strengths. It involves treating yourself with kindness and compassion, just as you would treat a dear friend. Begin by practicing self-care routines, such as taking time for relaxation, engaging in activities you enjoy, and setting boundaries to protect your energy. Remember that loving yourself is not a selfish act but a necessary one.
All of this sounds so easy!! NOT! It’s not like our crazy busy lives of running kids to soccer, taking care of those we love, animals, cleaning the damn house, and the laundry… oh the never-ending laundry; that any of this slows down or pauses so that we can learn new habits of loving us. Nope! We must add this in on top of craziness in our lives. Just remember, little baby steps are still steps and simply trying to do better than the day before goes a long way. Give yourself some compassion.
Choosing Happiness
Happiness is a choice that we make every day. It is not dependent on external circumstances but rather on our mindset. Cultivate a positive attitude by focusing on gratitude and appreciating the good in your life. Surround yourself with positive influences, whether they be people, books, or music. Make a conscious effort to engage in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. Remember, happiness is an inside job.
I swear society loves negativity and drama! I will never understand this, however, it is so easy to get caught up in all of it. It is so easy to blame someone else, instead of owning our own shit. Heaven forbid we deal with our own bullshit. Not to mention the ability to laugh at the shit we would normally cuss at! Getting a flat on the way to work and you are already late, or spilling the milk again trying to multi-task with that baby in your arms. The thing is though as when we’re old our lives slow down so much we will miss the chaos. Mindset is huge, deciding to choose happiness is extremely difficult but so worth it! Taking little steps every day to choose to be mindful of our mindset and correcting ourselves to choose happiness and positivity can change so much in your life! Try it for one week, and watch things change for the better.
Being Better
Strive to be a better version of yourself each day. This involves setting personal goals and working towards them with determination and perseverance. Reflect on your actions and learn from your experiences. Seeking opportunities for growth, whether through education, mentorship, or self-improvement practices. Embrace the idea that progress is a journey, not a destination, and celebrate your achievements along the way.
Enjoying Simple Things
In a world filled with distractions, it is essential to find joy in the simple things. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature, the taste of a delicious meal, or the warmth of a heartfelt conversation. These moments of simplicity can provide profound satisfaction and contentment. Practice mindfulness to be fully present in these experiences and let them remind you of the richness of life.
Believing in Yourself
Self-belief is the key to unlocking your potential. Trust in your abilities and have confidence in your decisions. Recognize your worth and know that you can achieve great things. We all have our own shit: struggles, unhealed childhood trauma, other traumas, shitty break-ups, family matters, medical worries; the “shit” comes in all shapes, sizes, and forms. It is difficult as all get out to be able to see the good in the middle of the storm or even the lesson in it all. Anger, guilt, grief, etc. all come so easily to us, if we can choose to remember that most of it, we can’t control, but we can control how we handle it. In the midst of the mess, we can choose to be happy and to love us as we are. Give it a try and remember it’s not failing if you keep trying.
